Palm Beach Gardens
Once comprised of empty miles of dairy cattle grazing land, Palm Beach Gardens was conceived and designed by multimillionaire insurance magnate and landowner John D. MacArthur.
Today, Palm Beach Gardens is a bustling signature city with over 30% of its land mass dedicated to green space, recreation programs tailored for residents of all ages, and an award-winning Art in Public Places program. Mr. MacArthur envisioned the city streets lined with trees and flowers, and he invested millions of dollars to create a Florida community with hundreds of waterways, rolling terrain, magnificent mature pine and shade trees, and rich foliage. In 1964, MacArthur heard that the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) was looking to relocate its home offices and golf courses; he donated more than $2 million to the project. In March 1965, the clubhouse was completed and the PGA moved in. In 1972, the PGA moved from the property that would become the J.D.M. Country Club and today is known as BallenIsles.
