About Joan

Joan Hegner's illustrious real estate career has spanned over three decades in Montauk. She and her longtime business partner and husband, Ray Hegner, another area real estate icon, previously ran a very successful brokerage of their own, Sea & Sun Realty before merging with Allan Schneider Associates in 2005 which was later acquired by Corcoran Group a year later.

One of their crowning achievements and proudest endeavors was their selection by the U.S. Marshall’s Service in September 2009 to market and sell the Bernard Madoff home in Montauk, realizing a buyer within 2 weeks of the listing and selling for over the list price. All proceeds, including their Corcoran commission, were donated back to the victims fund of the largest Ponzi scheme in history. "This was especially gratifying to us and the company as a gesture to do the right thing where so many lives were negatively impacted."

Joan's innate ability to truly listen to and absorb her clients' needs and desires, coupled with her extensive knowledge of both the Montauk and East End Real Estate landscape have afforded her a prosperous 35-year veteran status that is still going strong. She embraces her position of Senior Vice President with The Corcoran Group with great enthusiasm, and anticipates future success of untold proportions.

A native of Westbury, Long Island, Joan fell in love with Montauk the summer after her 1975 graduation from the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she also spent a semester studying Spanish and Archaeology while visiting numerous historic Mayan sites. She holds a B.A in Sociology & Business, which has served her quite well. Joan made Montauk her permanent home in 1976 and immediately entered real estate at one of the founding companies in Montauk, Craft Real Estate.

Joan has since cultivated an enormous portfolio of clients and customers, and takes great pride and care in helping them not only realize their dreams of home ownership, but make sound investment decisions. She has served people of all professions, including those in the entertainment field, CEO’s of businesses, the arts and music industries, who to this day remain friends and clients. And through her passion for photography, she has mastered her ability to highlight a property to show at its best to ensure optimize interest, maximum exposure and ultimately, an expedient sale.

The mother of grown twins, Joan enjoys spending time with her two sons and four grandchildren. She and Ray also like vacationing in the Bahamas, and cherish their daily beach walks with their "Regal Beagle," Hank.
