Subsequently moving to Michigan to earn her master's degree in fabric design at Cranbrook Academy of Art, she relocated to SoHo, where she raised her two children and has thrived since 1973. Her entrepreneurial spirit drove her to start and succeed in her own interior design business in 1979. She later handled U.S./Japan relations for a Japanese organization, working both here and in Washington, D.C. Haruno has also traveled extensively over the years, contributing to her worldliness.
