Casa Brava, with its artfully crafted sky blue ceramic tile and glass facade is one of New York's most memorable living spaces. The loft condominium was designed by award-winning architect Peter L. Gluck, who has the rare distinction of being listed on Architectural Digest's AD100. Unit 2A is a gorgeous residence featuring a semi-private landing, tall ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, continuous white oak flooring, double exposures that flood the home with sunlight, two absolutely immense walk-in closets, and a washer/dryer. The interior has been completely customized by the current owner to transform it into the perfect entertaining space. A large kitchen island can accommodate up to ten diners, and an expertly designed built-in does triple duty as a wine rack, wine glass holder, and a great deal of additional cupboard space. The beautiful, open chef's kitchen features custom kitchen cabinetry by Italian design firm Maistri. High arc Hansgrohe kitchen faucets, quartz countertops, and stainless steel GE appliances continue the sleek theme. The highlight of the home's bathroom is a dark walnut-hued floating vanity offset by a crisp white countertop. The bath also features a state-of-the art Toto commode, soaking tub, Jado faucets in brilliant chrome, and radiant heated floors. A GE washer/dryer and central heat/AC are the icing on the cake. The building also boasts a rooftop garden.

East Harlem
Uptown, from 110th to 125nd streets, from Fifth Avenue to the East River.
Rich in history and residential charm, the diverse East Harlem neighborhood offers those in search of a new apartment or townhouse plenty to peruse. Housing stock runs the gamut from rowhouses to studios, from one- and two-bedroom co-ops to renovated tenements. A big draw here in East Harlem is space — apartments often come with a dining room, an outdoor garden, or even parking. Large rental complexes like Hampton Court (complete with gyms, garden decks and retail shopping) are now being joined in East Harlem by luxury condos offering views of the East River, the George Washington and RFK (Triborough) Bridges.

This six-story residential condominium building at 232 East 118th Street, known as La Casa Brava, is distinguished by its intensely colorful and unusual façade, one of the most dramatic in the city. Designed by Peter L. Gluck, the façade is framed in a lapis lazuli blue glazed brick that wraps around the front of the building and peters out on its side facades, a nice deconstructivist touch. The façade design is also unusual as it irregularly frames the inset windows that are all differently multipaned. According to Mr. Gluck, the irregular framing on the front façade is meant to be “read” as a “tear” or “rent” at one scale while the different windows reflect the different apartments at another scale. Mr. Gluck received an honor award from the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2004 for his even more colorful five-story building for the Little Sisters of Assumption Family Services on East 115th Street between First and Second Avenues. The renovated building has an elevator and a common roof deck. It is located between Second and Third Avenues, two blocks from crosstown buses on East 116th Street and four blocks from a subway.
