Midtown West

This charming house was built in 1924 and has been an established co-op since 1949. It is a ten-story pre-war building and consists of 35 residential units and two professional/commercial units on the ground floor. The well-kept lobby has a beautiful sweeping staircase and the brass entry doors are kept brightly polished. The live-in super is housed in a rear apartment of the first floor. There are two elevators and two stairwells in the core of the building, which service the four apartments on each floor. The interior architecture includes beamed ceilings, fireplaces, two exits in each apartment, windowed kitchens and baths, and original nine-over-nine windows in the front apartments. The fourth, sixth, and eighth floors have pretty iron topiary stands on the façade. Many apartments have altered their floorplan over the years, converting dining rooms to bedrooms. The board is warm but careful about approvals, and prefers owner occupants to pied-a-terres.

It’s worth it to venture inside simply for the jaw-dropping interior design, let alone the illustrious act you’ll undoubtedly be seeing. Depending on the day or occasion, the area’s food options will have you covered, from on-the-go to cherished lunch spots to top-notch sit-down eateries. Perhaps surprisingly, certain hotels house among the best restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. And, of course, there’s Times Square. While unquestionably a tourist destination, it’s still a singular technicolor experience, loaded with shopping and entertainment.
