Old Village

Old Village is the historic district of Mount Pleasant, with houses dating to the 1700s. In the 18th- and 19th-centuries, Old Village served as a summer getaway for affluent Charlestonians looking for a waterfront retreat, with locals arriving via ferry for the season. Two centuries later, Old Village retains its reputation as one of the region's most charming and popular places to live. Due to its creation long before the advent of the automobile, Old Village is incredibly pedestrian friendly and a breeze to get around without a car. It’s just a short stroll (or bike or golf cart ride) to the commercial strip of Pitt Street, with its cute shops and the Pitt Street Pharmacy, an old-fashioned soda fountain/pharmacy that opened in 1937. Old Village is also very close to the waterside restaurants of Shem Creek, and a ten-minute drive to downtown Charleston or the Sullivan’s Island beaches.
