North Palm Beach became an award-winning planned community in 1956, an especially incredible feat considering the area was all mangrove swamp and farmland two years prior. MacArthur — of the notable foundation and fellowship — purchased the original NPB plot and is the namesake for a beloved state park on the Intracoastal, with access to Lake Worth Lagoon Estuary.
