Get to Know Leiper’s Fork

The secret’s out: Leiper’s Fork is the most delightful little village in all of Tennessee. It’s got just one main road running through town, but along that short stretch you’ll find multiple art galleries, sophisticated boutiques, and Fox & Locke — a live music venue and restaurant serving meat and three — which has been around since 1947. Even the gas station in town is rustic chic, with a chandelier over the communal dining table. Leiper’s Fork transformed into its perfect mix of country and culture because of the vision of one man: Aubrey Preston. Starting in the 1990s, Preston, a Tennessee native, started investing in Leiper’s Fork and turned it into a must-visit music destination, with country superstars regularly playing gigs here, as well as luring creative entrepreneurs to this tiny hamlet. He also put hundreds of acres into conservation, preserving the land’s wide-open rural character and avoiding overdevelopment in perpetuity.

Living in the Nashville Metropolitan Area

Nashville’s nickname is “Music City,” and it has steadily been climbing the charts as one of the best places to live in the country. The quality that sets Nashville apart is its spirit—something that’s hard to quantify, but that touches every part of the metro area. Of course, by any measure, Nashville is a powerhouse, as it serves as the state capital; a well-known college town, anchored by Vanderbilt University; a major center for healthcare; and as a burgeoning destination for tech, with both Amazon and Oracle building major campuses in town. But it’s the generations of musicians who have imbued Nashville with its distinct personality. Nashville is synonymous with country music, but the city’s musicians can’t be so easily defined, as they play everything from the blues to indie rock. Music is Nashville’s heart and soul, creating a soundtrack to every part of life here.
