Get to Know Etobicoke

Etobicoke has officially been part of Toronto since its amalgamation in 1998, but it still retains its own identity, thanks to its two centuries of history as an independent municipality. Situated on the far west end of Toronto, Etobicoke is bordered by Lake Ontario on the south, by the Humber River on the east, and by the Etobicoke Creek on the west. With its wide, tree-lined streets, Etobicoke offers a suburban lifestyle, while remaining conveniently close to downtown. Etobicoke — the “k” is silent — is divided into several smaller neighborhoods, which span a wide range of housing types. South Etobicoke is home to many new condominium buildings overlooking Lake Ontario and has easy access to the GO Train stations, as well as many cute, funky cafes. On the more established end of the scale, The Kingsway boasts historic homes, an Art Deco movie theater, and great restaurants.

Though every town is different, they all share a commitment to the great outdoors, with beautiful hiking and biking trails crisscrossing the region and plenty of opportunities to sail, kayak, or canoe on Lake Ontario and its nearby tributaries.
