High-Rise Fever Hits Fort Greene

High rise fever has hit Fort Greene, as the dozens of couples and families attending last week’s grand opening of the Greenehouse Condos would attest. The 12-story tower with 27 luxury units, at 383 Carlton Ave. corner of Greene Avenue, is almost sold out and is already occupied by some of the new owners.

In addition to the new owners and prospective buyers present at the grand opening Thursday evening were the developers — partners David Weiss and Jonathan Jacobs; Corcoran brokers Jerry Minsky, Paul Wexler and Erin Brennan, who hosted the event; and Gregory D. Atkins, representing Borough President Marty Markowitz’s office. Missing were the architects, Marvin Meltzer and David Mandl of Meltzer Mandl Architects in Manhattan.

“It was my intention from the very beginning to build the very best quality residential building in Brooklyn, and I am pleased that I accomplished that,” said Weiss, during a tour of the building.

“We wanted 27 owners to feel they have a special piece of Brooklyn,” he said. This includes “all the amenities they would get in Manhattan,” like a tower with an elegant facade, high-end finishes, custom kitchens with stone countertops and commercial-size refrigerators, ceramic tile baths, eight-foot solid birch wood doors in every room, 10-foot ceilings (penthouse ceilings are 20 feet), hardwood flooring, washers and dryers and central air.

The rooftop common deck is his personal masterpiece — an open space with a 360-degree view of the city. Guests on the tour could clearly see almost all of Brooklyn, plus the Verrazano Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, the Empire State Building and more.

“This is the pinnacle, the nicest part of the building. At night and on a clear day the views are breathtaking,” he said. “And this neighborhood is historic, the character is going to remain. That means that no one can ever block these views or the light or the air.”

The remaining six units include two one-bedroom condos at $549,000 and $595,000; and four two-bedroom units ranging from $695,00 to $924,000.

Minsky is overseeing condo sales; Wexler is handling the placement of medical facilities in the 20,840-square-foot space designed for that purpose on the first two floors. These offices will have their own entrance on Greene Avenue.
