Known for its beautiful sunsets and wonderful food, Inlet Seafood Restaurant in Montauk is currently undergoing some changes. Chris Coleman of Corcoran Real Estate Group, Southampton, has recently listed the restaurant and the 7 acre compound on which it is located for sale. At 541 East Lake Drive, this lovely property is sure to please gorgeous scenery, fine food and gracious servers combine to create a singular experience found only in Montauk. The listing price is $38.5 million and Coleman has been quoted as saying he thinks it could be turned into a great fishing club, the way many private hunting clubs have done upstate.

The restaurant opened in 2006 when six Montauk fishing captains decided to go into business. The men responsible for this exceptional restaurant are Captain David Aripotch, Captain Stuart Foley, Captain William Grimm, Captain Richard Jones, Captain Kevin Maguire, and Captain Charles Weimar. The restaurant is an offshoot of Montauk Inlet Seafood, the largest packer/shipper of fresh seafood in New York. One of the great drawing points of this restaurant is its fresh fish. After all, who could more aptly provide such 'from the sea to the table' service? The fish special of the day is guaranteed to be straight off the boats of the owners themselves. Their mantra, which can be found anywhere from their website to the shirts the servers wear, is Respect the Ocean - Harvest the Bounty - Feed the People. What can more perfectly describe the entire experience that is the Inlet Seafood Restaurant? Sitting at one of the tables you can watch the fishing boats coming in while you enjoy the fruit of those efforts, served in an enticing lemon herb sauce. What could be better than that?

If you talk to anybody in town about it, you would think that it has been around for decades. The Inlet Seafood Restaurant has captured the hearts of Montauk locals and the eye of incoming tourists and weekenders. Perhaps it is the impeccable Asian fusion menu, perhaps it is the stunning views of Montauk Harbor, perhaps it is the amazing photography that graces the walls, literally giving a history of the Montauk fishing industry, which hasn't changed all that much.

Perhaps it is the extremely large oak wood, polished bar, their wide variety of beers and flat screen televisions playing surfing videos. Perhaps it is its remote, almost secret like location, its extensive wine list or great people.

The Inlet Seafood Restaurant has a wide variety of sushi, including a spicy porgy roll a la Montauk, along with saut‚ed calamari salad.

The property for sale includes a marina and commercial fishing dock, with the storage and freezers needed in commercial fishing. However, it is the restaurant itself that holds the greatest appeal. Beautiful photos of the sea, fishermen and boats don the walls, giving the place a genuine and welcoming feel. The many large windows give a striking view of the harbor, fishing boats, and the sea beyond. The outdoor seating gives an even greater sense of the harbor, and enables you to smell the scent of the sea along with your dinner. Their herb crusted fluke and whole porgy have been lauded in several reviews as being not only unique, but also incredibly delicious. Their sushi is also the freshest you will find anywhere.

But, isn't $38.5 million a little on the high priced side for this part of Long Island? The Montauk Yacht Club was purchased last April for $34 million, and at one time Gosman's was listed with Brown Harris Stevens well into that price range. Considering all the possibilities this promising little restaurant offers, the 38.5 million price tag may be exactly right! The good news for the rest of us is that the restaurant will remain open for the duration of the sale. When you are craving that straight from the sea taste, you know right were to go-- Inlet Seafood Restaurant will not disappoint.
